岐阜・美濃地方は、1300年の歴史がある美濃和紙の産地であり、日本の伝統工芸「岐阜提灯」発祥の地でもあります。
機械化による大量生産が進む中、伝統的な手法で作られる美濃和紙や岐阜提灯の制作には今も職人の手仕事は欠かせません。
そんな美濃の地で、長く創作和紙製品を作り続けている「林工芸」と、独自の視点で数々のプロダクトを発信している「ユルリクデザイン」が、日々の暮らしとともに育まれた美濃和紙と岐阜提灯からはじまる、新しい「灯り」のかたちを考えました。

Mino region of Gifu Prefecture is the production center of Mino washi (traditional Japanese paper) with the history of 1300 years and is the birthplace of the Japanese traditional craft "Gifu chochin (paper lantern)." While mass production by mechanization advances, handwork by craftsman is still essential in the production of Mino washi and Gifu paper lanterns.
Fores/Hayashi Kogei Inc., who continues to make original Japanese paper craft in Mino, and yuruliku DESIGN, who launch numerous products from an unique viewpoint, offer you a new form of “light” nurtured by everyday life which starts with Mino washi and Gifu chochin.

「WASHI TORCH」は、懐中電灯のようなかたちをしたペンダントライトです。
硬い材質で作られることの多い懐中電灯を「和紙」という柔らかい素材を使い、日本の伝統的な「提灯」の技法を生かすことで、繊細で優しいイメージの照明にしました。使うシーンやインテリアに合わせて色やかたちを選んで、美濃和紙から透ける優しい灯りを楽しんでください。

WASHI TORCH is a flashlight-shaped pendant light.
By using a soft material called washi (Japanese paper) and applying the traditional techniques of Japanese paper lantern, it creates a soft and delicate lighting. Select a color and shape for your home interior or scenes and enjoy the gentle light illuminated by Mino washi.

岐阜（美濃）を訪れた際に、夕方の町並みに提灯からもれる優しい灯りがとても印象的で、 「和紙の照明を作りたい」と思ったことが始まりでした。 そこで、伝統的な提灯の特徴を活かしながら新しいものを作りたいと考えました。 デザインをしていく中で大切にしたのは、「灯り」と「人」との関係でした。 灯りとしての機能に加え、人が灯りから感じる気持ちの部分に寄り添えるものでありたいと思いました。 元気なときや、少し疲れているとき。 灯りを消しているときも、点けているときも。 一日を通して、暮らしを照らす「灯り」になれば嬉しいです。 When we visited Gifu (Mino region), the warm lights illuminating from the paper lanterns to the evening streets were particularly memorable. We wanted to make something new while making full use of the characteristics of a traditional paper lantern. When designing, we valued the connection between “light” and “people.”Not only functional as a light, we also hoped to convey and treasure the emotional aspect that people may feel from a light. When you are feeling happy or a little tired… Whether the light is turned on or turned off… We hope it becomes the “light” that illuminates your life throughout the day. yuruliku（ユルリク）

和紙漉きに始まり、様々なパーツの製造や組み立て、提灯張り、そして製品のパッケージにいたるまで
全ての工程は一貫して「林工芸」の諏訪工場にて制作されています。

The entire production process is conducted at Fores/Hayashi Kogei’s Suwa factory, from paper-making, assembling various parts, applying washi paper, to packaging.

一つひとつ、熟練の職人による手仕事によって丁寧に作られる提灯の制作。 　Each paper lantern is carefully handmade one-by-one by skilled craftsmen.
紙巻きされたヒゴ Paper-wrapped bamboo strips	等間隔に”目立て”が入った木型 Wooden mold with grooved “setting” at regular intervals
立体的に木型をセットします Wooden mold is prepared three-dimensionally	木型にヒゴを巻き付けていきます Strips are wrapped around the wooden mold
ヒゴが巻き終わった状態 Strip placement completed	糊をつけて、短冊状の美濃和紙を順番に貼りつけていきます Glue is applied and strips of Mino washi are placed accordingly
専用のブラシでしっかりと貼りつけます Washi is firmly pasted with special brush	すべての面を貼り終えました All surfaces are done
ゆっくりと木型を外していきます Wooden mold is removed slowly	縁の部分も丁寧に貼ります Washi is carefully pasted around the edge

「WASHI TORCH」は、メーカーやデザイナーの枠を超えて、新しいもの作りに取り組む姿勢から生まれました。

"WASHI TORCH" was born from the stance to create new things beyond the scope of manufacturers and designers.

紙を生かした照明器具を得意とし、美濃の風景が広がる諏訪工場で、和紙漉き、鉄・木工、塗装、提灯張りなどの製造を一貫して行っている。
